Who ever thought going inside a Virgin would be so rewarding?

A Virgin Mega Store that is. Perverts.

So anyway, yesterday after a positively hellish day at the internship, I decided to reward myself with a little shopping. I dragged my dear friend Rae Ann down to Union Square with the promise of a delicious Whole Foods buffet dinner (classy, I know.) Little did she know my ulterior motives. A mere 100 feet away from our dinner destination was absolute CD bliss, A Virgin Mega Store, on it's way to shutting down (hurray for my degree!), with discounts from 60% to 80% off. I kid you not. 

Now, I realize for many of you the concept of going into an "actual" record store may be quite daunting. But trust me, get off iTunes, Limewire, whatever your bullshit is and GO TO A VIRGIN MEGA STORE ASAP. Shopping here was one of the most liberating things I've done in years. Aisle after aisle of CDs as cheap as $5.60, it was beautiful. The selection was pretty picked through, but I still managed to part with several goodies. In the end, I bought 7 CDs for about $55. So it wasn't exactly the "bargain of the century", but a pretty sick deal if you ask me. 

Here's what I came away with:

1. Common - Finding Forever (I've been trying to get into Common for a while now. The CD features a ton of collaborations with different artists. So far I'm pretty into it.)

2. The Police - Every Breath You Take, The Classics (The Police. Need I say more?)

3. Jack Johnson - On and On (The ONE Jack Johnson CD I never got around to buying. Until now.)

4. Amos Lee - Last Days at the Lodge (LOVE me some Amos. Haven't opened it yet but if it's anything like Supply and Demand I'll be a happy camper.)

5. Destiny's Child - #1's (Don't judge.)

6. Boyz II Men - Legacy, The Greatest Hits Collection (For those "special" nights.)

7. Kanye West - The College Dropout (Classic Kanye. Never bought the whole CD so I figured now was the time. Great album.)

Please do yourself a favor and GO. There are only 5 days left with the sale and then it's bye bye $6 CDs (probably for eternity). So just do it. It's fun and very liberating. Trust me!

Greetings from New York City

I am currently living in New York City for the summer interning with Atlantic Records. I've been here for 2 and a half weeks, and I can honestly say I LOVE this city. I never want to leave. Ever. Going back to school after this summer is going to be rough. Why didn't I apply to NYU again? Beats me.

That being said however, for the next three months this blog is going to be completely devoted to cultural happenings in and around the big apple (exciting!). It should be good. I'll try to talk about a lot of events (especially free ones) around the city dealing with some sort of art/culture. Stay tuned.
